With conkers to kick and exciting piles of leaves to jump into, autumn’s a great time for new footwear and we’ve a wonderful range of seasonal trainers, shoes and boots, from brands we’ve loved for years (hello Bobux and Veja!) to newbies we're delighted to welcome to the KIDLY shoe rack (step forward Froddo and Zig + Star).
While you’re admiring the line-up, can we suggest you also take a minute to give your kid’s feet a quick measure? It’s easy peasy - see below. All you need’s a sheet of paper and a tape measure or ruler. Oh, and a child that will stand still for ten seconds. (Errr...so maybe good luck with that bit…)
Sizing always varies slightly from brand to brand, but once you know how long your child's biggest foot is (see instructions) the individual brand measurement charts below will help you pick the right size.
And remember, we do free 365 day returns, so you can always buy two sizes if you're unsure.
The easy way to measure your child’s feet:
- Draw a straight line down a piece of paper. Put the paper on a hard floor, by a wall.
- Get them to stand with their heel against the wall and their longest toe on the line. Mark the line at the tip of the longest toe. Measure both feet - one will be longer!
- Measure the distance between the wall end of the paper and the furthest toe mark in cm, then use the relevant size chart for the brand (see below) to find the size to order. Remember to add 1 -1.5 cm growing room. If you really can't pick between sizes, order both and send back - we do free 365 day returns.
- Top tip: When you're measuring babies and young toddlers, it's easier to hold the paper up to their foot. Mark the line at both heel and toe, then measure between the marks.
